Meet The Instructor

John is a veteran American Ninja Warrior competitor, competing on seasons 9, 10, & 11.  If he’s not in the gym training, you’ll probably catch him outside training on the stairs under the Gateway Arch.  He is a US competitive stair climber. The tallest building he has climbed is the Willis tower in Chicago.  In the past 5 years he has climbed over 80,000 floors.  This is why he is known as the StairNinja on American Ninja Warrior.  

When not training John spends most his time with his wife & two children. His daughter is just 5 months old but his 9 year old son loves ninja warrior obstacles just as much as his dad.

This class is located in the Jungle gym area.  In this class students will be learning the 3 core fundamentals of ninja warrior that will prepare them for the level 1 class once they turn 6.  The 3 fundamentals are proper warped wall technique & safety, moving balance, & grip strength.  They will be learning about the value of perseverance & respect in regard to obstacles & helping one another overcome those obstacles.  

  • Requirements to move up level 1 – Turns 6 before the next session or coach John evaluates them to test their skills to see if they can level out faster (evaluations are at the request of coach John)

Ninja Level 1

This class is designed for the beginner ninja but also someone with minimal experience on obstacles. Students will learn proper warped wall techniques, different grip strengths, moving balance, & how to perform a correct pull up. They will continue to learn about the value of perseverance & respect in regard to obstacles & helping one another overcome those obstacles.

Requirements to level up – Capable of a 30 second dead hang from a straight bar, learn proper roll out, capable of 1 unassisted pull up & hold at the top of pull up for 5 seconds then come down slow without dropping off straight bar, be able to move from one obstacle to another without falling, & finally be able to conquer the 8 ft warped wall 3 times consistently plus dismount down wall safely (evaluations are at the request of coach John)

Ninja Level 2

1 1/4hours $188.00 Co-ed This class is designed for those who have met the required skills from level 1 ninjas or have been evaluated by coach John to start in level 2. In this class students will learn more advanced balance drills focusing on spinning balance, also learning ways to increase their pull up & grip strength. Students will start to learn how to swing from obstacle to obstacle. More emphasis will be put on generating power through explosive movements while running up the 10 ft warped wall and starting to build a cardio base element for the students as well. They will continue to learn about the value of perseverance & respect in regard to obstacles & helping one another overcome those obstacles. Requirements to level up – capable of a 30 second dead hang from 2 different obstacles & a 1 minute dead hang from a straight bar, 5 unassisted pull ups with a 5 second hold on the last rep with a slow drop finish, able to hit the mini tramp to the trapeze swing bar without falling, showing proficiency in balance obstacles without assistance, ring swing completed to giant rope with climb to top, be able to move through multiple obstacles without falling & be able to conquer the 10 ft warped wall 3 times consistently plus dismount down wall.

Ninja Level 3

1 1/4hours $188.00 Co-ed This class is designed for students who have met the required skills from level 2 ninjas or have been evaluated by coach John to start in level 3. In this class students will continue to increase their grip strength & leg power while introducing them to swinging power. They will start to learn the “L” form hold of the arms & lock offs while swinging & moving through different obstacles. 3 ft Laches will be introduced as well teaching them to let go while in a swing. Proper swing technique will be taught to enable them to be safe & confident while moving through the air. They will continue to learn about the value of perseverance & respect in regard to obstacles & helping one another overcome those obstacles. Requirements to level up – able to do a 1min 30second dead hang from a straight bar, be able to do 10 full range pull ups non stop unassisted with a 5 second hold at the end finishing last rep with a slow drop, be able to do a 3 ft lache from bar to bar & a 6 ft trapeze swing lache to trapeze, be able to hold the “L” arm position for 10 second on a straight bar & know proper lock off technique, be able to mini tramp to obstacle & continue through 2 more without falling, & finally be able to conquer the 10 ft warped wall at a full dead stop with no run up

Ninja Level 4

1 1/4hours $188.00 Co-ed This class is designed for students who have met the required skills from level 3 ninjas or have been evaluated by coach John to start in level 4. In this class students will start to learn advanced grips & holds while working towards increasing their overall strength. Learning bigger lache lengths up to 6 ft including laches to different obstacles not just to bars or the trapeze. Upper & lower body strength will be focused on more utilizing forms of calisthenic drills. Introducing the chin up technique. Full course runs will be done in class to build endurance & confidence within each student. They will continue to learn about the value of perseverance & respect in regard to obstacles & helping one another overcome those obstacles. Requirements to level up – 2 min dead hang, 8 ft trapeze swing to bar & 6 ft bar to bar lache, 15 unassisted pull ups holding last rep finishing with a slow drop, 10 unassisted chin ups with lock off at top of last rep finishing with a slow drop, be able to link 3 obstacles in a row, & finally conquer the 12 ft wall 3 times in a row consistently in one class.

Ninja Level 5

1 1/4 hours $188.00 Co-ed This class is designed for students who have met the required skills from level 4 ninjas or have been evaluated by coach John to start in level 5. This class is designed for the most experienced student. We will review all the skills taught in previous levels & focus on full course runs while developing their grip & leg strength. Combining their skills in speed, strength and agility in different obstacle setups to build their confidence and mental focus. Introducing students to the vertical limit grip technique, building up a greater cardio base in regards to full obstacle course runs and competition level obstacle training. Core skills continued – working on max dead hang time on different obstacles besides the straight bar, learning bigger lache lengths & linking them together, 50 unassisted pull ups(sets of 5 or greater), conquering the 12 ft wall 3 times in a row with no run up.

This class is designed for students who have met the required skills
from level 3 ninjas or have been evaluated by coach John to start in the
elite ninja class.
This class is designed for the most experienced student. We will review
all the skills taught in previous levels & focus on full course runs while
continuing to develop stronger grip & leg strength. Learning bigger
lache lengths up to 6 ft including laches to different obstacles not just
to bars or the trapeze. Combining their skills in speed, strength and
agility in different obstacle setups to build their confidence and mental
focus. Introducing students to the vertical limit grip technique, building
up a greater cardio base in regards to full obstacle course runs and
competition level obstacle training. They will continue to learn about

Both for beginners & veterans of fitness.  By combining traditional fitness exercises with ninja warrior obstacle training, we bring the fun back into getting fit & healthy.  Train side by side with 3 time American Ninja Warrior John Wilmas, aka the StairNinja to become the best version of you.
